For many, the term “Southern Culture” has always been an anachronism. And yet, it is the South which gave us William Faulkner, Tennessee Williams and Pat Conroy. It gave the world Paul Prudhomme and Craig Claiborne and the whole vast spectrum of Southern Food. It gave us the celebrated painter Jasper Johns, and is home today to both West Fraser and Jonathon Greene.
So, too, does Spring Island have a culture all its own - not one ginned up for marketing, but a real living spirit of attitudes, values and beliefs which sets this place apart. It can be seen in the spirit of natural, unforced hospitality from both residents and staff. It can be seen in the unflagging courtesy with which we treat each other, those who serve us, and those who chance to visit here. It can be seen in the reverence with which we treat our history and the wonders of the natural world.
And especially, it can be seen in the priorities we choose for our leisure time. Although sports and fitness rank high on that list, the residents of Spring Island have long sought after experiences that enrich and reward our daily lives. “Lifelong Learning” is one of the cornerstones of life here and it is one of the things that sets up apart.
